I currently have 2 Synology DS918+ NAS systems. These were under High Availability mode, but as it doesn't offer the level of availability I'd like when they have an update which requires a reboot, I'm attempting to run both servers side by side.
The documentation has some good ideas on replicating, but none seem to suit my needs.
I've seen that Synology Drive ShareSync offers two-way sync, but this doesn't work in my case, as Drive ShareSync does not see file changes when modified within a Docker volume.
I then looked at Shared Folder Sync, however that is only one-way sync and if the directory already exists, it would rename the folder.
Snapshot Replication makes the replicated folder read only and the shared folder cannot exist n the destination NAS.
Ideally I'd want a 2-way sync. I'm not expecting 2 NAS's to be accessed at the same time as it would be controlled to only send traffic to one. The Snapshot Replication seems to be the best approach, but it requires more manual steps in switching over the primary NAS when needed to allow the writable folders.
The use-case that I'm seeing is when a software update on the primary NAS requires a reboot, the traffic would be sent to the secondary NAS. Using the Snapshot Replication method it would mean that the websites would be in readonly mode - as this includes the database, it would prevent users logging in. Now, these updates happen at 2am and last typically 5-10 mins so maybe this is something I need to accept - at least the websites are still accessible.
Is there an alternative approach that would sync 2 way using a scheduled task? I'm thinking something like rsync, but I'm unsure.
