dns - How can I redirect an old site subdomain as a new root domain?

I’m working with a multitenancy django app, so each client has an exclusive subdomain. Right now my problem has nothing to do with the app, it’s a really silly question actually. In case a client want an exclusive domain, how can he set at his domain manager to point to the subdomain? It’s not REDIRECTING, it’s to load the content on his domain. I tried with a test domain I have, using CName record, but I was only able to redirect it back to the old domain. I tried to set an A record with the ipv4 address but it didn’t recognize the tenant subdomain, and redirected back to the root domain. Thanks for your time.
