kernel - Why do I need to provide the location of .text section when using gdb add-symbol-file

Question

What's the purpose of providing this location? I do as this blog suggest. But I don't know why the actual location of .text is needed?

I also have checked source ware, but it doesn't provide a clear explanation about it.
