Gradle release plugin: Make a release with cherry picked changes

Question

I use the gradle release plugin to make java releases. It works well.

Is it possible to do a release with the gradle-release-plugin such that only a certain commit is used? I would like to make a small bugfix release, with just one small change from master, but master already has a lot more changes. Could someone point me how to do this with gradle and maybe the release plugin?
