line - Buffer by road miles/ft as opposed to "crow fly"

Question

I have a line and OpenStreetMap roads loaded on a QGIS project and would like to figure out all areas that are within 500ft driving distance from that line as opposed to a buffer which may include remote areas not served by roads. I am very new to this and have been doing some research but haven't found anything like this online. Thank you in advance for your help! TF
