python 3.x - how can I debug a python3 gtk3 app with pyCharm

Question

I'm trying to debug a python3/gtk3 app with pyCharm, https://gitlab.com/paolobenve/gottengeography

I'm getting an error

** (gottengeography:818515): CRITICAL **: 08:00:54.497: gboolean gexiv2_metadata_has_tag(GExiv2Metadata*, const gchar*): assertion 'self->priv->image.get() != NULL' failed

it supposedly deals with the gtk libraries. Unfortunatly, pyCharm only reports that error, without giving any other trace info.

The app imports are:

gi.require_version('Gtk', '3.0')
gi.require_version('Champlain', '0.12')
gi.require_version('GtkChamplain', '0.12')
gi.require_version('GtkClutter', '1.0')
gi.require_version('GExiv2', '0.10')
from gi.repository import Gtk

How can I debug it?
