gis - Finding out why QGIS GRASS algorithm is hanging - persistent log?

Question

I am running the GRASS r.surf.contour algorithm on some raster contour layers in QGIS. Seven of the layers complete without any problems. One seems to hang no matter what I do, and the other hangs if I make the GRASS cell size smaller than 6.0. The problem I have is that I can't work out why they're hanging - if I kill the r.surf.contour process in Activity Monitor (I'm on a Mac) then the QGIS log just disappears as the rest of the script errors then terminates. As per another question on SO, I've checked the preferences box Keep dialog open after running an algorithm, but the situation remains the same. Does anyone have any idea how I can peek under the hood and work out what's making the scripts fall over on those particular layers? Thanks!
