Javascript: console.log to html

I would like to write the console.log output to a div layer.

For example:

document.write(console.log(5+1)); //Incorrect, random example

Can someone give me a solution to my problem?

Thank you.

EDIT:

what i meant is, for example:

console.log("hi");

and it shows the output "hi" on the screen.

Note: An example: http://labs.codecademy.com/#:workspace

You can override the default implementation of console.log()

(function () {
    var old = console.log;
    var logger = document.getElementById('log');
    console.log = function (message) {
        if (typeof message == 'object') {
            logger.innerHTML += (JSON && JSON.stringify ? JSON.stringify(message) : message) + '<br />';
        } else {
            logger.innerHTML += message + '<br />';
        }
    }
})();
